At Elevate O&P, we provide custom orthotic solutions designed to enhance comfort, improve function, and support your unique needs.
Our Orthotic management encompasses all conditions of the lower limb, not just the feet. AFOs (Ankle-Foot-Orthoses) and KAFO’s (Knee-Ankle-Foot-Orthoses) incorporate the higher joints to stabalise and control unwanted movement, often seen with more complex conditions.
Custom Foot Orthoses
Our Custom Foot Orthoses (CFOs) are crafted specifically for you, ensuring a precise fit and optimal function. We take a detailed plaster impression of your foot, which serves as the foundation for creating an orthosis tailored to your anatomy and needs. From impression to final fitting, every step is done in-house, ensuring the highest quality and craftsmanship.
We use EVA (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate) foams in different densities, allowing us to customise shock absorption, comfort, and control for each individual.
How Foot Orthoses Work
Foot orthoses can:
- Redistribute pressure – offloading painful areas and spreading pressure across the sole of the foot
- Control unwanted movement – preventing harmful joint movement and reducing injury risk
- Correct posture – applying corrective forces to improve alignment and biomechanics
Conditions Treated by Foot Orthoses
Custom foot orthoses can help manage:
- Diabetic neuropathy
- Plantar fasciitis (heel pain)
- Bunions
- Metatarsalgia
- Morton’s neuroma
- Flat feet (overpronation)
- Midfoot arthritis
- Stress fractures
- Shin splints
- Growing pains
- Sever’s Disease
Ankle-Foot Orthoses (AFO)
An AFO supports the lower leg, foot, and ankle, enhancing stability and improving gait. AFOs are available in materials such as plastic, carbon fibre, and 3D-printed designs. They may be:
- Solid (no movement)
- Articulated (controlled movement)
- Anterior shell (providing ground reaction force)
- Dynamic strut (spring-assisted movement)
AFOs can improve balance, prevent injury, correct alignment, and enhance mobility.
When Are AFOs Prescribed?
AFOs are prescribed for neurological or musculoskeletal conditions that affect strength or movement in the lower limbs, such as:
- Stroke
- Cerebral palsy
- Spina bifida
- Spinal cord injury
- Acquired brain injury (ABI)
- Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease
- Muscular dystrophy
- Osteoarthritis
Prescriptions are customised based on severity, mobility goals, and stage of recovery.

Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses (KAFO)
A KAFO provides full lower-limb support for individuals with significant weakness or instability. It supports the entire leg – from foot to thigh.
KAFO types include:
- Manual locked knee
- Free-swinging
- Stance control (mechanical/electronic)
- Microprocessor-controlled (real-time movement adjustment)
KAFOs are often prescribed when natural muscle function no longer supports walking. The more closely a device mimics natural movement, the more efficient the gait pattern.
